Sonatina Prodigio is more done. I have the 3rd mvt almost memorized. It just happened on its own!

I am now working on memorizing Satie and Revrie.

I was sad to learn while watching the Oscars that Jóhann Jóhannsson passed away very recently.

Post Vacation

I'm going to try for 15 minutes of practice today to start reconditioning my hands after a week away from the harp. If I can get up from the computer. Of course, I've already sat down and played quietly earlier, but I'm not counting that towards my time.

I almost have Rêverie memorized. Some skips and bumps.

Opus 28 just has one remaining hiccup.

Reverie/30 Days to Done wrap up

Started: Monday 2/20/17

Finished: Monday 6/26/17
Total: 18 weeks

End result: I can play it passably, but it still needs a lot of dynamic work. And I'm trying to memorize it.

Details:
This is a five page piece, not too technically challenging. There is one very difficult section, and four moderately difficult sections.

I stopped working on this from 2/21 to 4/17 (almost 8 weeks) . Not sure why. However, I'm including that time in the learning time since I often can't predict how learning is going to go.

big section work, 2 pages one day, then 3 the next.
small section work, 1, 1, 1, 2.
small section work, 1, 4.
Week one: avg  1.875 pages per intensive work day

big section work, all
Small section work, all
Small section work, 7 days
Big section work, 3, 2.
Week two: avg 1.8 pages per intensive work day

small section work, 2, 3
small section work, all
small section work, 1.5, 2.5, 1.5
spot practice, 1, 2.5, 1.
Big section, all
Week 3: avg 2.5 pages per intensive work day

details, 2.5, 1.5, 1
big section, all
details, all
small sections, all
Week 4: avg 3.33 per intensive work day

Conclusion:
5 pages/18 weeks  = .27
1 page/4 weeks = .25

I could probably use this effectively as designed for a moderately challenging two page piece.

It's a heartening to see my learning increase as I work on the piece - I have to do less intensive work as time passes.

It would be interesting to break this down into hours, and see if I were not working full time how much lower this ratio would be.

I'm starting Sonatina Prodigio by Virgilio Mortari, and will also be interested to see if this ratio holds up. I have learned the first movement (not well) in the past.

1st page of Reverie is pretty easy. From then on, just minor correction points. Should go quickly, then adding in dynamics.

There are about 4 spots in Opus 28 where I trip up in the memorizing.

Rêverie - worked on 3 against 4.

Almost have Opus 28 memorized. Need to do that with others! They're so easy!

Starting work on Rêverie, since it's been stuck in my head from Westworld.

Double notes (Idyllic Poem): Played at ♪ = 40 and it was a struggle!

Went over 2nd part of Automne, need to relearn it. Played almost all of Prelude Intimes. Flagged on very last page.

Got two more lines crossed off Prelude 4.

Played Prelude 2 and Arabesque 1 just because I can now.

Recorded four pieces today. The session was a little shaky. I learned recording four at one time is too exhausting. However, someday, if I can get to the point it only takes two takes, it might be feasible.

Need to buy another SD card.

I could use a couple more days work on everything, but heading into studio tomorrow anyway.

Today I just need to mark First Arabesque with red pencil articulations.

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Now I feel suddenly not ready to record. I still am having trouble with spots in all the pieces and I'm not sure on some what picture I'm trying to create.

The Folk Song is something that needs to be played regularly in order to remember it at all.

Everything else is very close to being recording ready.  Tambourin just needs practice variations recorded. But I do know faster is better.

Friday, June 5, 2015

Tambourin - trills need to be slower and less squeaky. And I need to figure out dynamics, wow.

Rigaudon - The dynamics I decided on I like and can be added to the actual music.

1st Arabesque  - need to go through and mark mistakes and drill those.

Folk Song - ready? possibly?  need to mark dynamics, but they're already kind of ok?

Not recording this weekend, hopefully next.  Then I will have ONE piece left. I think I'm going to skip the Italian Pavane.  Then I can re-record whatever is necessary.

Monday, June 1, 2015

Record things Wed morning, then analyze. Repeat until the weekend.

Friday, May 29, 2015

I think Tambourin, Rigaudon, First Arabesque and Folk Song I might all be ready to record. Tambourin is probably as good as it's going to get.  Everything else just needs test recording work. And I do mean work, not just "whatever".

Detail work on Arabesque. Need to do 2nd and last page.

Friday, May 22, 2015

Rigaudon - worked first 2 sections slowly. last phrase of 2nd section still needs work.  Need to work slowly on last 2 sections. With dynamics. Need to listen to recording.

First Arabesque - I may have finally deprogrammed myself for the opening triplets. 2nd and last page still need deprogramming. Need to listen to recording.

Folk Song 1 - need to listen to recording. May just need work on one arpeggio.

Giga - ?? Not sure what to do with it. Maybe just keep working it slowly up to speed.

Sunday, May 10, 2015

I also have Arabesque 1 almost completely memorized. I still have one page where I have it memorized wrong from my high school years, and need to un-cement it.  I've been close to successful with the other pages. The opening thirds finally work except for my right third finger occasionally.

Monday, March 23, 2015

My hand started bothering me both in Pavane and Folk Song. So I switched to Arabesque #1, but got fatigued. I did get in a good solid hour of playing, and Pavane is halfway done, and Folk Song is close to halfway, so it's not going too badly.

Monday, January 5, 2015

Worked trouble spots in Fuga to bottom of 2nd page.

Gave myself blisters trying to get one measure of Arabesque 2.

Ran through exercises looking for repertoire - some Boscha might be good? Or Pozzoli?
